Grandfather Mountain

We spent Labor Day weekend in North Carolina, and we made the trip up to Grandfather Mountain on Sunday (along with everybody else in the state). Despite the crowd, it was a great day--perfect weather, perfect scenery, and perfect company!
Elizabeth loved seeing all the animals...

She learned some new growling techniques from the bears...

We made the trek up to the top and were treated to amazing views. And, of course, we made the trip across the mile high swinging bridge (that's a mile above sea level, not the ground!)

The bear looks a little moth eaten..."Lions and Tigers and Bears oh my." I must admit that I have never crossed the famous swinging bridge at Grandfather Mountain. The last time I was there the place had been seriously denuded allegedly by acid rain. In all seriousness, I hope your generation can be less careless with your rain than we have been. Here in California, we'll take rain in any form at any time. No matter about the acidity, the LA people steal it all so fine...let THEIR skin peal off in the swimming pool...see if we care!
