The term "real" when used to describe relatives must always have some flexibility! In the South, when it comes to bloodlines the term "real" is often misapplied. What determines "real" especially when used to describe "uncles" and "aunts?" "Uncles" and "aunts" are special people (regardless of 'official' family connections) because they are often so much an ingrained part of the family that their role becomes blurred. Sometimes family uncles and aunts are a disgrace and unofficial "uncles" and "aunts" are endearing personalities who teach you the important nuances of life that may be disquieting to one's parents. Your "not-so-real" Uncle Bobby is looking forward to being a factor in your overall development!
